This prototype was created to assist anyone with an interest in Māori land access and visualise environmental data of Māori land blocks. It was designed to answer four primary questions. These questions were initially designed for Māori land owners, but the tool is available to assist anyone with an interest in Maori land.
- Where is my land? What is the location of my land block?
- What does my land look like? What are its physical characteristics?
- What is around my land? Other blocks? Land resources?
- What can I do with my land? What is its potential? Opportunities? Constraints?
The environmental data for each Maori land block has been modelled and interpreted to give basic information on land resource characteristics, versatility for use (e.g. degree of limitation), land suitability, sustainable land use recommendations and land potential.
The data used in this tool is sourced from national databases maintained by several organisations.
These data sources are subject to specific copyright law, licenses and data use agreements – refer links below. Use of this data is not covered by the permissions granted in use of this Visualising Māori Land website.
